The Challenge for Supermarkets

Refrigeration is your biggest energy line. Most of it is spent cooling air that walks straight out of an open cabinet, because multi-deck fridges are built to be open.

It gets worse overnight. The store is shut for ten hours and the cabinets keep pouring cold air into an empty aisle.

Back of house has the same issue at a bigger scale. The cool room door and the loading dock both cycle constantly during a delivery, and every opening is conditioned air leaving the building.

Does this match what supermarkets and grocers actually deal with?

How Strip Curtains Solve It

Night covers close the cabinets when the store is shut. Staff pull them down at close and back at open, and the fridge stops working against an empty aisle for ten hours a night.

Cool room and dock doorways take a standard strip curtain. Trolleys and pallet jacks push straight through, so nothing gets propped during a delivery run.

Clear PVC everywhere back of house. Your team needs to see who is coming the other way when both of them are pushing a loaded cage.

  • Overnight saving: Cabinets stop cooling an empty store for ten hours
  • Cool room holding: Recovers faster between deliveries
  • Dock control: Conditioned air stays in during a delivery run
  • Trolley friendly: Staff push through with loaded cages
  • Visibility: Clear strips so nobody collides at a busy doorway

Where Strip Curtains Go in a Supermarket

A store has one job the other food pages do not: closing open display cabinets overnight. Here is what goes where.

Floor plan of a supermarket showing where strip curtains go: night covers on the open chilled cabinets, a clear curtain on the doorway from shop floor to back of house, 3mm ribbed Polarflex Freezer grade on the cool room and freezer, and 3mm in 300mm width at the loading dock
1

Open display cabinets · Shop floor

Night covers, clear

This is the easiest saving in the store. Multi-deck cabinets pour cold air into the aisle all night for no return. Covers go down at close and up at open, and the compressors get ten hours off.

2

Shop floor to back of house · Staff doorway

Clear, 2mm

This doorway runs loaded cages all day. Clear PVC so two staff pushing stock the opposite way can see each other before they meet in the middle.

3

Cool room and freezer · Cold storage

3mm ribbed, Polarflex Freezer grade

Cold storage is the door that pays back fastest. Ribbed PVC stops the strips sticking together in the damp cold, which matters when the door cycles right through a delivery.

4

Loading dock · Deliveries in

3mm in 300mm width

The dock takes your heaviest and widest traffic. Pallet jacks, roll cages and drivers, often with the roller door up for the length of a delivery. Wider strips overlap more and survive it.

Just want the night covers?

That is where most stores start, and it is the fastest payback. Send us the cabinet dimensions and we will cut them to fit.

Customer quote

Dealing with Stripdoors from first contact to delivery was excellent, fast, and the product is great. I got my item and installed it within 1 week, very happy with it. And my cool room sits on 3 degrees with the door open, how good is that.

Questions and answers

How much do night covers save?

It depends on your cabinets, your store hours and your tariff, so we are not going to quote you a number we cannot stand behind. The mechanism is simple: a covered cabinet is not cooling an empty aisle for the ten hours you are shut.

Are night covers sold in standard sizes?

No, they are cut to the cabinet. Send us the dimensions of the run you want covered and we will make them to fit.

Will staff actually use them?

They go up and down as part of close and open, the same as any other end of day task. If a cabinet is awkward to reach, tell us at quote stage rather than after.

What thickness for the loading dock?

3mm in 300mm width. The dock takes pallet jacks and roll cages, and wider strips overlap more so the seal survives that traffic. Step up to 5mm if a forklift comes through.

Can we get a coloured curtain for a customer-facing doorway?

Yes. Colour rolls come in Clear, Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Smoke, Orange, Hot Pink and Purple. Clear is the right call back of house, but a customer-facing entrance can carry your colours.

Do you deliver to regional areas?

Yes, we ship Australia-wide. Delivery costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the size of your order.

Are all these answers correct?

Getting Started

We make supermarket strip curtains and night covers to order, cut to your cabinet and door sizes and shipped Australia-wide. Most stores start with the night covers, because that is the fastest payback.

Questions we need you to answer

These are the things we could not confirm ourselves. The page cannot go live until they are sorted.

Are night covers a separate product line with its own pricing, or cut from the same rolls?

We have said they are cut to the cabinet and asked customers to send dimensions. If there is a proper product page or a price per metre we should link it instead.

Do you have any real numbers on what night covers save?

We have deliberately refused to quote a percentage. If you have a figure from a customer or a supplier that you can stand behind, this page is where it would do the most work.

Which stores are the night cover photos from, and are you happy for them to run?

None of them show a store name, so nothing identifies the customer. Just checking you are comfortable.

Is there a supermarket or grocer who would give us a quote?

The testimonial is a genuine cool room review, which fits the back of house half of the page but says nothing about display cabinets.
