Your cool room door is the most expensive door in the shop. It has to hold temperature to the degree, but your team is through it dozens of times an hour carrying trays, pushing trolleys and serving customers.
You pay twice every time that door opens. Cold air escapes and warm air rushes in, so the compressor works harder and your cold chain is at risk. An open doorway also lets flies in, and slows your team down when their hands are full.
FSANZ requires butchers to keep strict temperature control and pest management, under Standard 3.2.2 of the Food Standards Code. Fail an inspection and it costs you fines, lost product and your reputation.
A strip curtain seals the doorway and still lets your team walk straight through, hands full or not. The strips overlap to hold the seal, then fall back into place behind them.
A cool room needs 3mm ribbed PVC in 150mm or 300mm, in Polarflex Freezer grade. The ribbed surface stops the strips sticking together in cold, humid air.
Lighter internal doorways take 2mm ribbed in 150mm or 200mm, at a lower cost.
A butcher shop has four doorways and each one needs something different. Here is what we fit where, and why.
Bright colour, matched to your branding
Your front door is doing two jobs at once. It keeps insects out and gives you a food safety barrier, and it makes the shop visible from the footpath. Pick a colour that matches your branding rather than clear.
Red, blue or smoke. Never clear
Blood marks show on clear PVC and are hard to keep looking clean, so use a colour. Your customers can see this doorway from the shop floor, so it needs to look decent. Food inspectors prefer a colour here too.
Smoke
Smoke doesn’t show dirt or blood. There is a lot of protein waste going out this door, which means a lot of flies in summer.
3mm ribbed, Polarflex Freezer grade
This is the door that pays for itself fastest. If you only fit one strip curtain in the shop, fit it here. The same goes for a freezer if you have one.
Mount the head section as high as possible above the rail so the strips fall around it rather than fouling on it.
Each photo has two bits of text. The caption is what people read under the picture. The alt text sits behind the image where you cannot see it, and is what a screen reader speaks aloud and what Google reads. Both need to be right.
These match the four doorways above. Prices exclude delivery and were taken from the live catalogue on 20 August 2026.
Dealing with Stripdoors from first contact to delivery was excellent, fast, and the product is great. I got my item and installed it within 1 week, very happy with it. And my cool room sits on 3 degrees with the door open, how good is that.
Go with 3mm ribbed PVC in Polarflex Freezer grade, in either 150mm or 300mm width. It is more durable in a busy doorway and insulates better than 2mm. If you run motorised pallet trucks or a forklift through the opening, step up to 5mm, available in 150mm or 300mm, flat surface only.
Yes. Our PVC strip curtains are made from food-grade PVC that is safe for use in food preparation and storage environments. They help you meet the temperature and hygiene requirements in Standard 3.2.2 and your HACCP food safety program.
Wipe them down with warm soapy water or a food-safe sanitiser. Strips unhook individually from the stainless steel head section if you need to clean them properly. We recommend cleaning as part of your regular hygiene schedule.
Yes. Our stainless steel hook-on head sections let you unhook and replace a single strip without taking the whole door down. That is worth having in a butcher shop, where the strips nearest the trolley line wear fastest.
Yes, we ship Australia-wide. Delivery costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the size of your order.
Use the hook-on stainless steel head section. Stainless resists the harsh cleaning agents used in food environments, and the hook-on design makes it easy to remove strips for cleaning or replacement.
We make strip curtains for butcher shops to order, cut to your door sizes and shipped Australia-wide. Start with the cool room, because it is the door that pays back fastest.
Add the front, middle and back doors as budget allows. Send us your door measurements and we will tell you what to run where.

You were asked on the 10 Aug call to nominate 2–3 but the call moved on. This is our pick from the verified range, not yours.
Photos in the folder are labelled that way, including the butcher shop shot. But the verified range says colours only come in 1.5mm Flat and ribbed only comes in Clear. If 1.8mm ribbed smoke is still available it is probably the better back-door recommendation.
Plates only come in 100, 150, 200 and 300mm. Front and back doors both call for 75mm colour rolls.
The old draft claimed “dispatched within 1 business day” and “approx $25 metro” with no source, so both have been pulled.
The old draft said -50°C. We could not verify it, so it has been removed.
The testimonial is a real Google review about a cool room, but no butcher-specific review exists. Same low-friction approach as Malcolm at SRA. We draft it, they approve.
